The Best Beaches Near Agios Stefanos, Northwest Corfu

The best beaches near Agios Stefanos are one of the main reasons guests come back to this part of Corfu year after year. The northwest coast has a character quite different from the busier resort areas further south. The villages are small and unhurried, the water is clear, and within a short radius you have real variety: long sandy beaches, dramatic cliff-backed coves, and a remote double-bay that takes effort to reach and rewards every bit of it. This guide covers all of them, starting with what is on your doorstep.

Agios Stefanos Beach

Agios Stefanos beach is a five-minute walk from the villa down through the village. It is a generous stretch of golden sand with shallow, calm water that slopes gently from the shore, making it one of the better options on the island for families with young children. The seabed is sandy and visibility is good, so you can see clearly even at a decent depth.

A line of traditional tavernas runs along the back of the beach. Most serve fresh fish, grilled meat, mezze plates, and cold drinks. The atmosphere is relaxed and nobody is in a rush. A long lunch here has a habit of turning into an afternoon without anyone quite deciding to let it happen. Water sports equipment, including pedal boats and kayaks, is available to hire in season.

In the evenings the beach takes on a quieter mood. The families pack up, the tavernas fill with people staying for dinner, and the light on the water in the last hour before dark is worth walking down for on its own.

Arillas Beach

Arillas is 10 to 15 minutes along the coastal path heading south from the villa. The path follows the hillside above the shoreline and the views along the way are worth slowing down for. The beach at the end is longer than Agios Stefanos, the village behind it is slightly larger, and the atmosphere is consistently laid-back in a way that suits people who are not looking for anything too structured.

What makes Arillas particularly worth a visit in the afternoon or early evening is its orientation. The beach faces almost directly west, which means it catches some of the best sunset light in northwest Corfu. The bars and tavernas along the beachfront come into their own at this time. If you are planning an evening visit, give yourself time to get there and settle in before the light starts to drop.

Arillas also has an established wellness scene. The Colibri centre runs yoga sessions and seasonal programmes throughout the summer, from morning flow classes to longer evening workshops. You can find more about activities in the area on our Experiences page.

Logas Beach (Peroulades)

Logas is about 3 km from the villa and is probably the most photographed beach in northwest Corfu. The cliffs above it are high and striking, layered in shades of white and pale orange, and the beach at their base is a narrow strip of sand and flat rock with very clear, shallow water. It is the kind of place that looks like it has been arranged specifically for photographs, and it is just as good in person.

Getting down requires a steep path from the road above. Most fit adults manage it without difficulty, but the return climb in the heat of the day is tiring, so an earlier or later visit makes for a more comfortable experience.

The 7th Heaven Bar sits directly on the clifftop above the beach. It is well known in this part of Corfu and the reputation is deserved. The terrace faces west across the Ionian Sea to the Diapontian Islands, and on a clear evening the view holds the light for a long time after the sun has gone down. If you want a seat at peak sunset, arrive at least an hour ahead.

Porto Timoni

Porto Timoni takes effort to reach, and it is worth every bit of it. The beach is accessed by a 25 to 35 minute walk from the village of Afionas, about 10 km from the villa. The path is well signposted and straightforward to follow, but there is a steep descent at the end, and you will need to climb back out when you leave.

What you arrive at is a double cove: two beaches separated by a narrow rocky headland, with water in deep turquoise that is genuinely exceptional. Because of the walk, it stays manageable even in peak summer. There are no facilities at the beach, so bring everything you need, including plenty of water for the walk itself. You can get a sense of the geography of this part of the coast on our Location page.

Paleokastritsa

Paleokastritsa is 25 km from the villa, which puts it in half-day-trip territory. It is one of the most visited parts of Corfu and earns its reputation. The coastline here is a series of small bays enclosed by wooded headlands, with water in blues and greens that photographs come close to but do not quite capture.

The 13th century monastery on the promontory above the main bay is open to visitors in the mornings and worth stopping at. Below it, short boat trips run from the main beach to sea caves along this section of coast that you cannot reach by land. Restaurants in the village range from decent to genuinely good, and a long lunch here before the drive back makes for a full and satisfying day.

Getting Around

For Agios Stefanos and Arillas, comfortable shoes are all you need. For Logas, Porto Timoni, and Paleokastritsa, a car makes things considerably easier. Our concierge team can arrange car hire delivered to the villa or collected at the airport.
